2021 Volkswagen Tiguan R revealed

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan R has been revealed, an is on its way for the international market. The company revealed few of its first images and details. Volkswagen Tiguan is one of the best selling models and most popular SUV from the carmaker and it will now come in three different versions, the SEL R-Line, the R-Line and an eHybrid.

The new Tiguan has been offered with a all new wider grille which merges in with the new sets of headlights. The SUV now gets sportier front bumper, larger lower air dam, the bonnet is higher and sharp standard LED headlights. It also gets new tail-lights, restyled wheel designs and an updated rear bumper. The bumpers have been redesigned too, but when the official VW press release states that the ‘4Motion’ lettering on four-wheel-drive models has been redesigned you know that this is the mildest of mild updates.

The “Tiguan” badging has also been relocated to the centre of the tailgate.  The model gets additional chrome bits on the side and at the back, depending on the variant. The Tiguan R is powered by a 2.0-litre 320hp turbocharged engine and while VW hasn’t revealed much more about the engine or its capabilities. It also has a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine but with 300hp – and it can manage 0-62mph in under five seconds. The Tiguan R gets a seven-speed automatic gearbox as standard and also comes with a torque vectoring system which distributes power between the right and left rear wheels (and the front and rear axles) to help go around corners quickly.

The Tiguan’s interior is now available with touch-sensitive panels for the climate control and steering wheel, replacing physical buttons. Volkswagen says these are optional extras but they may be fitted to some UK trim levels as standard. Heated seats are standard, and their temperature, along with climate control, is adjusted via touch sliders. Along with that it gets a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen, though a 10.3-inch screen is standard on the higher trim levels. Additionally, a 15-color ambient light system is standard on all trims, as is a Fender audio system.

Tiguan R also gets Adaptive Chassis Control that allows you to change the suspension settings to make the car feel harder or softer over bumps. It has Comfort, Sport, Race, Individual, Offroad, Snow and Off Road Individual settings. The Race mode, which is like turning everything up to 11, can be activated by a button on the Tiguan R’s steering wheel.

In the new Tiguan R there are four tailpipes for the exhaust and you can upgrade to a titanium exhaust system made by the sports exhaust specialist Akrapovič.
The company has announced that it will start its pre-booking in the western part at first and later the sales are expected to start from next year.
