2023 Honda City launched at INR 11.49 lakh

Honda has launched the 2023 iteration of its popular sedan–the City–for the Indian market. The City, which was previously updated in 2020, now comes with new design changes, cutting-edge technology, and an updated powertrain.

The company offers the sedan in two powertrain options: a petrol engine and a hybrid engine, and based on these powertrains, the petrol engine models come in four variants: the SV (new), the V, the VX, and the ZX–at a base price of INR 11.49 lakh. Meanwhile, the hybrid powertrain models (e:HEV) are offered in two variants: the V and the ZX (new)– at a starting price of INR 18.89 lakh.

Design

The 2023 City comes in a stylish and sporty design. The new notable exterior elements includes a front grille with diamond chequered flag pattern, front bumper with carbon wrapped lower moulding, fog lamps with sporty garnish, rear bumper with sporty carbon-wrapped diffuser, and 16-inch dual-tone diamond-cut multi-spoke alloy wheels. Furthermore, the new sedan also comes with the new Obsidian Blue Pearl colour.

Inside, the petrol models come with a black-and-beige-themed cabin, whereas the e:HEV’s cabin features black-and-ivory-themed cabin. The dashboard features a three-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, a seven-inch fully-digital instrument console, and an eight-inch infotainment system that is now compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 

Moreover, the City e:HEV models’ additionally features new changes such as a new carbon fibre pattern instrument panel, piano black finish on all AC vents, and piano black garnish on the steering wheel.

Powertrain

The City comes in two powertrain options: a petrol engine and a hybrid engine. The City (petrol variants) is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine–compatible with E20 fuel–that produces a peak power of 119 hp and a peak torque of 145 Nm. For transmission, the engine comes mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed CVT. According to the company, the City (with 6-speed MT) provides a mileage of 17.8 kmpl, and the City (with 7-speed CVT) offers a mileage of 18.4 kmpl.

Meanwhile, the City e:HEV is powered by a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol hybrid engine–which is paired with two self-charging electric motors–that generates a combined power of 122 hp and a peak torque of 253 Nm. Furthermore, the sedan provides a mileage of 27.13 kmpl

The sedan also comes in three riding modes: EV Drive: motor uses battery for a silent and zero emission drive, Hybrid Drive: both traction and generator motor generates combined power, and Engine Drive: engine works highly fuel-efficient, along with providing enough power.

Features 

The new City gets the Honda sensing safety feature that includes Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), adaptive cruise control with low speed follow (only in City e:HEV), road departure mitigation system, Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS), lead car departure notification system (new), and auto high-beam. Other notable features include TPMS, 37 Honda Connect features, 6 airbags, hill start assist, immobiliser with anti-theft alarm, and leather-upholstered seats, among others.

Honda has launched the 2023 City in four variants for petrol engine and two variants for hybrid engine–at a starting price of INR 11.49 lakh and it goes up to INR 20.39 lakh.

Although there is no official news regarding the 2023 Honda City’s launch here, in case of its launch here, only the petrol variant might be offered–so the fans can expect its base variant to come at a price of Rs 56 lakh.
