BYD Dolphin set to be introduced at the NADA Auto Show 2023 in Nepal

Cimex, the authorised distributor of BYD automobiles in Nepal, is set to introduce its all new electric hatchback–the Dolphin–for the Nepalese market. The new Dolphin will be the brand’s first Ocean Series model that adopts the “Ocean Aesthetics” design concept. The electric hatchback will be powered by a 44.9 kWh battery pack that will offer a WLTP range of 340 km.

Design and features

The new Dolphin is based on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0. The electric hatchback measures 4290 mm in length, 1770 mm in width, and 1570 mm in height, and it comes with a wheelbase of 2700 mm. In terms of its design, the electric hatchback has a conventional design. The front fascia features LED headlights and small air intakes, and on the rear, the EV gets LED tail lights, which are connected by a zig-zag-striped LED light bar. Furthermore, the electric hatchback also gets metallic paint and either 16-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels, depending on variants. Inside, the EV gets leather-upholstered seats, and among the seats, the rear seats get a 60:40 split feature. The dashboard features a flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel, a five-inch TFT full LCD instrument console, and a 12.8-inch rotable infotainment system. And on top, the car features a panoramic roof.

The electric hatchback might come equipped with notable features such as electronic brake distribution, traction control system, automatic vehicle load, electronic stability control system, 360-degree camera, tire pressure monitoring system, mechanical child safety lock, intelligent power brake system, comfort stop, and emergency call, among others. For convenience, the EV might get automatic headlights, electrically adjustable ORVMs, a 6-way adjustable driver’s seat, a PM2.5 air filter, keyless entry and start, a heat pump, a wireless charger, a trunk light, and heated front seats, among others.

Powertrain

The Dolphin will be powered by the 44.9 kWh battery pack–which is mated to a permanent magnet synchronous motor–that is capable of generating a peak power of 93 hp and a peak torque of 180 Nm. Furthermore, the electric hatchback can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in around 10.9 seconds. For charging, the EV takes around 7.15 hours to get fully charged via a 7.4 kWh charger, and it is also compatible with a DC charger that charges the EV from 0 to 80% in around 42 minutes. On a single charge, the EV offers a WLTP range of 340 km.
