The new-generation BYD E6, released globally in February 2021, has arrived in Nepal. According to Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd, the official distributor of BYD vehicles here, the E6 is available in a sole GLX variant. The E6 will be available in two different variants–the GL and GLX–and at an introductory price of NPR 60 lakh.
BYD, the world’s third-largest battery manufacturer, initially entered Nepal in 2017, and they have been selling the first-gen E6, along with several other models of vans, buses, and forklifts. For 2021, BYD offers the E6 with a much-improved range compared to the previous model, which has a range of 400 km. The second-gen E6 also gets refinements in terms of design, interior, battery, and features.
The E6’s body design is heavily inspired by BYD’s compact MPV–the Song Max–and the front fascia is sculptured to resemble the face of a dragon; a slim chrome line runs across the face to meet LED headlamps integrated with LED DRLs, and the BYD branding is featured centrally. The rest of the body is kept minimal, yet elements such as a floating roof design with chrome accents, 17-inch alloy wheels, rear spoiler, and a sporty rear with LED tail lamps elevate the elegance of the car. The colour options on the vehicle are dual-coloured (green/white), crystal clear white, and doctor black.
The interior is upgraded, and it looks premium, with a 10.1-inch rotatable touch screen featured on the dash. The dash also has a 5-inch TFT digital instrument cluster and 4-way manually adjustable leather steering wheel (with dashboard, sound, and Bluetooth control). The seats have a black leather finish; and the driver and co-pilot seats are 6-way manually adjustable.
The FWD E6 is equipped with a Blade battery (LFP) and an AC permanent magnet synchronous motor, which work together to generate a power of 94 hp and torque of 180 Nm. For the front suspension, the car uses McPherson and Multi-link for the rear. The front and rear brakes are handled by vented disc brakes. The car provides a maximum range of 520 km, and it can achieve a top speed of 130 kmph. It takes approximately 12 hours to charge the E6 via a standard household charger, but a 60 kW DC fast charger will do the work in just 1.5 hours.
The dimensions of the E6 measure 4695 mm in length, 1810 mm in width, and 1670 mm in height. The car’s wheelbase measures 2800 mm; the ground clearance stands at 175 mm; and the turning radius is 5.65 m. This 5-seater has spacious 580 litres of boot space that can fit four large suitcases and one small suitcase.
The car’s control features include collapsible energy-absorbing steering wheel, electronic power steering, anti-lock braking system, electronic stability program, electrical-park brake, vehicle dynamic control system, brake override system, traction control system, electronic brakeforce distribution, hill-start assist control, and hydraulic brake assist system.
Safety duties are handled by front and side airbags, seat-belt reminders, ISOFIX, child safety lock, remote door lock, smart key system, speed sensing automatic locking, tyre pressure monitoring system, body electronic anti-theft system, anti-theft on the power system, a rearview camera with distance scale line, rear sensor, and low-speed beep. Convenience is taken care of by USB rear ports, Bluetooth, four speakers, power windows, electric liftgate, and rear AC vents.
