Hyundai announces IONIQ as its new EV Brand – Three new EV on its way

The Korean automaker Hyundai announced the launch of IONIQ as its own separate new electric brand. The company confirms to built three new electric cars to add on to its the lineup within the next four years.

Hyundai already has the IONIQ, an electric sedan produced with three different powertrains : hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and all-electric (BEV). The Ioniq’s success led to Hyundai’s eco-mobility program. So Hyundai is now all ready to brand an entire series under the name, which it says is a fusion of “ion” and “unique”.

The new brand is said to use Hyundai’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which they claims will enable “fast charging capability and plentiful driving range.”

The new EV line up includes Hyundai IONIQ 5, Hyundai IONIQ 6 & Hyundai IONIQ 7. The company released few details about these three electric vehicles to be released under the new brand. Simple numerical naming scheme has been offered where the even numbers used for sedans and the odd numbers for SUVs.

Hyundai is yet to unveiled an early concept of the vehicle, but they have released this image of the concept.

The first model under the IONIQ brand will be the IONIQ 5 midsize CUV that will launch in early 2021. IONIQ 5 is based on the concept EV ’45’, which Hyundai unveiled at the International Motor Show (IAA) 2019 in Frankfurt. IONIQ 5’s designers took inspiration from the past and integrated it with cutting-edge parametric pixels, a unique design element that Hyundai designers will continue to incorporate into future IONIQ models. The IONIQ 6 sedan, an electric sedan is said to based on the company’s latest concept EV ‘Prophecy. Where the IONIQ 7 is said to be a large SUV according to Hyundai’s Press release.

The automaker hasn’t released details specs for these upcoming EV. Further information is expected to be revealed after the launch of IONIQ 5. For more info stay tuned.
