MG Motor recently launched MG ZS EV, its first EV in Nepal offering a tough competition to the Hyundai KONA EV. Both these EV are one of the first SUV EV in Nepal and are able to attract large number of customers. Let us take a look at how these two electric SUVs will stand against each other.
Starting off with the price rates the new MG ZS EV is priced at the rate of Rs 49.99 lakhs whereas Hyundai Kona is priced at Rs 51.96 Lakhs. We can see a slights rise in Hyundai Kona’s price than ZS EV.
In terms of delivering power, MG ZS EV is powered by a bigger 44.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, which is capable to generate power of 147 Bhp and max. torque of 353 NM where by 80% charge can be obtained within 30 minutes of time. ZS EV can top off from 0 – 100 kmph at just 8.5 seconds. On the other hand Kona is powered by 39.2 kWh lithium-ion battery which delivers 136 Bhp power and max torque of 395 NM and it can top off from 0 – 100 kmph at 9.7 seconds. MG gives 340 km of range whereas Kona gives 452km range.

The MG ZS EV slightly longer, wider and taller than the Hyundai Kona EV. However, the MG SUV has a shorter wheelbase.
Both SUVs share plenty of features, including a sunroof, smart key, a touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, a leather wrapped steering wheel as well as electronically adjustable driver seats. However, the MG packs i-SMART connected car technology as well as a PM 2.5 AC air filter which we don’t get in Kona. Similarly on the other hand, Kona gets heated and ventilated seats, virtual engine sound system which, at low speeds, emits an engine sound to alert pedestrians as well as the visually challenged.

Here MG ZS EV benefits from a larger touchscreen infotainment system and a dual panoramic sunroof where as Hyundai Kona gains the upper hand with a 10-way electrically adjustable driver seat as well as heated and ventilated seats.
In terms of safety features both these SUV EVs include 6 airbags, hill assist, ABS & EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system as well as reverse parking camera and sensors. The MG ZS EV takes a narrow lead with a seatbelt reminder system for the second row and heated ORVMs. It was rated with a 5 star on New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) crash test as well.
Both these EVs are loaded with many modern techs, essential safety features at an affordable price range. Which one will you prefer?
