Mahindra opens booking of its electric SUV: the XUV 400

Mahindra and Mahindra has opened the booking of its first electric SUV–the XUV400–in India. The XUV 400 has been offered in two variants: the EC and the EL–at a starting price of INR 15.99 lakh. The company plans to commence the deliveries in March 2023.

Design

The XUV 400’s design is inspired from the XUV300, however, the EV is 205 mm longer than its ICE-powered sibling. The front fascia features a new closed-off grille with arrowhead-shaped inserts; the ‘Twin Peaks’ logo at the centre; and LED headlamps. And at rear, the e-SUV gets a new tail lamp with Satin Copper inserts. The new EV gets 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and it has been offered in five colour options: Arctic Blue, Everest White, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black and Infinity Blue.

Inside, the XUV400 gets a similar five-seater cabin layout as that of the XUV300, but the EV comes with all-black interiors and gloss black inserts on the dashboard. The dashboard features a steering wheel with mounted control buttons and centrally embedded brand’s new Twin Peaks logo. For infotainment, the SUV comes with a seven-inch touchscreen display that is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The XUV400 comes with notable features such as auto climate control, auto headlights, rain sensing wipers, six-airbags, power foldable wing mirrors, dual-tone roof option, rear parking camera, new upholstered seats, three riding modes (Fun, Fast, and Fearless), electric sunroof, and OTA updates, among others.

Battery and performance

The new XUV400 is powered by a 39.4 kWh battery–mated to a 112 kW motor–that generates a maximum torque of 310 Nm. The lithium-ion battery pack is IP67-rated, meaning it gets protection from water and dust.

For charging, the electric SUV gets fully-charged in 6 hours and 30 minutes via a 7.2 kW AC charger and a 3.3 kW home charger takes 13 hours. Furthermore, the battery also supports a 50 kW fast charger that is capable of charging the EV from 0-80% within 50 minutes. On a single charge, the EV provides a range of 456 km, according to MIDC.

The  EV can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 8.3 seconds and its top speed is 150 kmph.
