Maruti Suzuki Fronx soon to be launched in India

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, has announced the launch of its new compact crossover–the Maruti Fronx–in the Indian market. The Maruti Fronx, based on the company’s Baleno hatchback, will be offered in two petrol engine options: a 1.2-litre dualjet engine and a 1.0-liter turbo engine. The new crossover is expected to be priced between INR 8-11 lakh, which will serve as a rival to the Tata Punch, the Nissan Magnite, and the Renault Kiger.

Design

The new Maruti Fronx is based on the company’s Heartect platform (like Baleno models) that gets the same wheelbase of 2520 mm as the Baleno hatchback; however, the Fronx is 5 mm longer, 20 mm wider and 50 mm taller, comparatively. The crossover gets a sporty front fascia that features an-all black front grille and automatic headlamps with tri-claw-like LED DRLS. On the rear, the crossover comes with split LED taillamps that are connected by a horizontal LED light bar. Furthermore, the car is offered in six mono-tone colours and three dual-tone colours.

The Maruti Fronx’s cabin comes with new colour combinations and textures, whereas all the other elements are inspired from the Baleno models. The crossover’s notable interior elements are its leather-upholstered seats, a three-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, and instrument console, among others. Similarly, the crossover comes with either a nine-inch or seven-inch infotainment system (depending upon the variants) that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Powertrain

The Maruti Fronx will be offered in two petrol engine options: a 1.2-litre dualjet engine and a 1.0-liter turbo engine. The 1.2-litre dualjet-petrol engine–mated to either a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission (depending upon the variants)–produces a peak power of 89 hp and a peak torque of 113 Nm. Meanwhile, the 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine generates a peak power of 98 hp and a peak torque of 148 Nm. For transmission, the engine is also offered with either a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission (depending upon the variants). The company has also claimed the 1.2-litre dualjet engine to provide a mileage of 21.79 kmpl with MT and 22.89 kmpl with AT. Whereas the 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine will offer a mileage of 21.5kmpl with the MT and 20.01 kmpl with AT.

The new Maruti Fronx comes equipped with notable features such as automatic climate control, keyless entry and go, fabric seat upholstery, powered windows, tilt adjustment for steering, dual tone interior, hill hold assist, reverse parking sensor, electronic stability program, rear defogger, wheel covers, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, voice assistance, 6-speaker sound system, 308-litre boot space, rear AC vents, halogen projector headlamps, and head-up display, among others.
