New-Gen Mahindra Thar revealed
Finally the new second generation Mahindra Thar has been unveiled in India on the special occasion of Independence day. Its official bookings & prices will be revealed on 2nd Oct, 2020. The carmaker has confirmed that the new model lineup will come in two formats : AX and LX, three variants: AX, AX Option and LX and six colour options – Red Rage, Mystic Copper, Napoli Black, Rocky Beige, Galaxy Grey and Aquamarine. The Thar AX series is aimed at the adventurer seekers while the LX takes a more premium approach.

In the new generation Thar we can see significant cosmetic changes and features upgrades along with new powertrains setup. The carmakers has offered a new better designs to the Thar although it retains similar appearance from the previous model. It gets a Wrangler inspired seven slat grille, round headlamp, chunky wheels and a boxy silhouette. The grille and the front-end has its own distinct style which makes the Thar more appealing.
Features such as updated suspension setup, 650mm water wading ability, 226mm ground clearance(unladen) and 37 degree departure and 47 degree approach angles make the 2020 Mahindra Thar a more capable, lifestyle-oriented SUV.

New Thar is powered by 2.0 litre mStallion petrol engine which produces 152 hp power and 320 NM of torque paired with 6 speed manual transmission options as standard and also a 6 speed automatic transmission options. Where as the diesel engine is powered by 2.2 litre mHawk delivering 132 hp of power and 300 NM of torque. Paired with 6 speed manual gearbox as well an Aisin sourced 6 speed torque converter automatic.
The AX variant is offered with 16-inch white steel wheels, power windows, power steering, mechanical locking diff, rear parking sensors as standard and a manual HVAC. Where as the LX variants is offered with a 18-inch alloy wheels, an eight-way adjustable driver’s seat, eight-way adjustable driver’s seat, tire pressure monitoring system, auto AC and ESP.

Inside the new Thar you will see a multi-function steering wheel, 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system that’s mounted high on the dashboard, a new instrument cluster with a coloured multi-info display, Front-Facing Rear Seats with 50:50 split. Other features that are new include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, manual AC, cruise control, Roof mounted speakers, steering-mounted audio controls, front power windows, electric window switches, cup holders, Electrically Adjustable ORVMs, air vents with carbon fiber-like surrounds below which sit the AC controls and remote locking.

In terms of Safety features it includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, electronic stability program, hill hold assist, dual airbags, Isofix child seat mounts, hill start -descent assist, ESP with roll-over mitigation, three-point seatbelts, even a roll cage and Crash-safety compliant bodyshell.
