New KTM 490cc Twin-Cylinder Bikes to Possibly Roll Out in 2021
One of the largest two-wheeler manufacturers, Bajaj has its hands on single-cylinder KTM bikes only with 125cc, 200cc, 250cc, and 390cc. Meanwhile, a year earlier, buyers were offered with twin-cylinder plonked in the KTM 790 Duke. Now, the brief hiatus from Duke 390 to 790 is to be filled by Bajaj will all-new motorcycle range.

A whole new platform is being prepared by KTM to develop 500cc category motorcycles. Similarly, reports claim that the 490cc motorcycles are being developed with a parallel twin-cylinder engine. The all-new segment of 490cc is focus on those buyers who would prefer to upgrade from their current 390cc version i.e. Duke 390, RC390 and the Adventure 390.
The new twin-cylinder engine is likely to have similar formats or design structure as the previous models of 790/890 engines. The twin-cylinder engine is anticipated to enhance the refinement levels and will be considerably more powerful than the 43bhp, 390cc single-cylinder engine.

Stefan Pierar, KTM Head, stated that the new platform is still under development. Moreover, he claims that the first product based on this platform with the new twin-cylinder powertrain will be introduced by 2022.
