Ola is all set to build the first electric scooter factory worth Rs 2,400 crore in Tamil Nadu which according to Bhavish Aggarwal, Ola Chairman, and Group CEO, will be one of the most advanced manufacturing facilities in the world.
“In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, Ola’s factory is an important step in making an Atmanirbhar Bharat. It will catalyze the reduction of India’s import dependence in a key future sector like electric vehicles, boost local manufacturing, create jobs as well as improve the technical expertise in the country,” a statement issued by the ride-hailing platform read.
The factory upon completion will be the world’s largest scooter manufacturing facility with an annual capacity of 2 million units and nearly 10,000 jobs. Ola has plans to cater to customers from not only India but all around the world including Europe, Asia, Latin America, and more.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Group CEO, Ola, said, ‘‘we are excited to announce our plans to set up the world’s largest scooter factory. The factory will be producing various ranges of Ola’s two-wheelers initiating with Ola’s electric scooters which have already gained the Marketing Innovation award at CES and the German Design Award. Furthermore, Ola aims high for software and design innovations to its two-wheelers as they roll down the market in the coming months.
