2021 Skoda Kodiaq Facelift | Variants, Features, and Specification Details

The Skoda Kodiaq has received its first mid-life upgrade since its debut in 2016. The Czech car manufacturer has revamped the model with changes on the exterior and interior, along with a few additions to the features list. The new Kodiaq, a full-size SUV, made its world premiere about a month ago and is expected to launch in India during September. The launch in Nepal is expected shortly after the SUV makes its appearance in India.

Now, let’s get to know the details of the all-new 2021 Skoda Kodiaq.

Exterior

The exterior of the Skoda Kodiaq has been sharpened and made more distinctive owing to a number of changes. The front end has seen the most changes, including redesigned and slimmer headlamps (with LED Matrix technology available as an option), a larger hexagonal grille positioned upright, and a reshaped bumper featuring a faux aluminum skid plate. While the Kodiaq’s sides remain unchanged, the car now sits on new alloy wheels (ranging from 17 to 20 inches). The SUV’s rear also features a few changes, such as a blacked-out roof-mounted spoiler with finlets, slightly tweaked LED tail lights with Skoda’s crystalline lens effect, and a new rear bumper. The vehicle also gets bold ‘SKODA’ lettering on the tailgate, making the rear rather interesting.

Interior

The Kodiaq’s interior, however, does not feature drastic changes. That said, the SUV does come with more components than before. One of the noticeable changes is the new two-spoke steering wheel, which is standard for all Skoda models, except for the Sportline and RS trims, which have a three-spoke steering wheel. The new Kodiaq also comes with a few features that enhance the SUV’s premium feel, such as new decorative strips, additional contrasting stitching, and improved ambient lighting functions. Moreover, there is now a 10-speaker, 575-watt Canton audio system, which replaces the eight-speaker system of the pre-facelift Kodiaq. And as before, the SUV still comes with a 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit digital instruments display and a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All versions get satellite navigation, voice control, and smartphone connectivity as standard. The flagship L&K model also gets powered ergonomic front seats, which are not only ventilated but also feature a massage function.

Powertrain

The Skoda Kodiaq’s main engine range remains unchanged: the company is offering two choices of ‘TSI’ petrol engines and two ‘TDI’ diesel engines. There is a 148bhp, 1.5-litre petrol engine with on-demand cylinder shutdown, front-wheel drive, and a manual gearbox. The second option for the petrol engine is a 187bhp, 2.0-litre engine with a four-wheel drive and a DSG automatic gearbox. The diesel engine options are 2.0-litre units and offer either 148 or 197bhp with the more powerful unit getting four-wheel drive as standard. The variant to enter India and Nepal will most probably be the petrol variant–with a 190 hp, 2.0-litre TSI engine mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission powering all four wheels.

Safety

The Skoda Kodiaq comes with safety features such as nine airbags, advanced differential lock function, electronic stability control, pedestrian monitor, multi-collision brakes, park assist, traffic-jam assist, auto-light assist, blind-spot detect, ABS with EBD, and hill-hold control. The enhanced features include an automatic emergency braking system that can now recognise pedestrians and cyclists, while the rearward-facing radar sensors can tell if the car is about to be hit from behind, and can prepare the cabin accordingly in a flash.

The 2021 Skoda Kodiaq measures 4697 mm in length, 1882 mm in width, and 1681 mm in height. The car’s wheelbase measures 2788 mm. The boot space maxes out at 2065 liters and the fuel capacity is 58 litres.

The SUV is offered in five variants: the SE, SE L, SportLine, L&K, and vRS.
