Tata Motors launches the most affordable electric hatchback: the Tiago EV

Tata Motors has launched an electric version of its entry-level hatchback–the Tiago – in India. The Tiago.ev has been launched at a starting price of INR 8.49 lakh. The Tiago EV is based on the latest ICE-powered Tiago and it gets the brand’s Ziptron technology. The EV is offered in four variants: XE, XT XZ+, and XZ+ Tech lux. All models, except the XE, are offered in two battery packs and wide-range of charging options.

Design

The Tiago.ev inherits the design elements of its facelifted ICE-powered Tiago model. However, the EV’s front fascia features a refreshed grille with .ev badge that extends to the projector headlamps with DRLs. The EV comes with dual-coloured roof and blue highlights throughout the body. Furthermore, the electric hatchback is offered in five colours: Teal Blue, Daytona Grey, Tropical Mist, Pristine White, and Midnight Plum.

Inside, the EV comes with leather-upholstered seats and the driver’s seat is height adjustable. On the dashboard is a steering wheel with mounted control buttons and behind it is a digital instrument console that displays a speedometer and tachometer dial. For infotainment, the EV comes equipped with a 7-inch HARMAN touchscreen display that is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Battery

The Tiago EV is offered in two IP67-rated battery options: a 19.2 kWh (for XE and XT) and a 24 kWh (for XT, XZ+, and XZ+ Tech lux).

The 19.2 kWh battery, mated to a 45 kW PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors), produces a maximum torque of 110 Nm and provides a maximum range of 250 km. The EV can be charged from 10-100 % in 5.1 hours via a 3.3 kW home charger and the same amount can be charged in 2.6 hours using a 7.2kW AC charger. In addition, the battery is also compatible with a DC fast charger.

The 24 kWh battery–paired to a 55 kW PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors)–generates a maximum torque of 114 Nm and offers a maximum range of 315 km. The EV takes 6.4 hours to charge from 10-100% via a 3.3 kW home charger and requires 3.6 hours to charge the same amount using a 7.2 kW AC charger. Moreover, the battery is also compatible with a DC fast charger.
