The 2020 World Car of the Year announces the winner- double wins for Kia and Porsche

Kia Telluride a seven-seater SUV sold only in America has been announced as the winner of the World Car of the Year 2020. It is the first Korean win in the history of Kia in wining double awards. Battery-powered Soul EV was chosen as World Urban Car and Telluride as the winner.

The Telluride is Kia’s full-size, three-row SUV, and made it to the shortlist of the final three from a list of 29 vehicles vying for the title. The other names in the running for World Car of the Year were the Mazda 3 and the Mazda CX-30.

In its latest generation, the Soul is also offered as a pure electric model, and it is this EV that has bagged the award, beating the all-electric Mini Cooper SE and Volkswagen T-Cross in the running. Wins for the Telluride and Soul EV mark the first time models from Kia Motors have won a title at the World Car Awards.

In the category of World Luxury Car & World Performance Car- Porsche Taycan was able to get a win, the top three included two battery-electric cars – Mercedes-Benz EQC, Porsche’s 911 and Taycan and all three from Porsche 718 Spyder/Cayman GT4, the Porsche 911 and the Porsche Taycan respectively.

Since the world is facing the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Car Awards 2020 auto show which was originally scheduled to be announced in New York was cancelled however the overall announcement this auto show were declared online via a live stream. The winners were selected and voted out by the international jury consisting of 86 prominent auto journalists from 24 different countries around the world.
