The new updated Mahindra Thar to launch by August 2020 in India
Mahindra India is readying for the launch of the new 2020 Thar, this SUV is stated to be launched by August 2020. The new Mahindra Thar was speculated to be unveiled at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo which was cancelled due to COVID-19.
The 2020 Thar also looks familiar thanks to identical design elements. Mahindra’s Italian design house – Pininfarina, SsangYong and Mahindra’s in-house design team has designed the new-gen Thar lifestyle SUV. It is designed and developed on the modified version of the ZEN3 platform. The major changes will include new front and rear bumpers, strong beltline, flared wheel arches, new aggressive grille with large LED headlamps and new tail-lights. The new model will be wider and bigger than the current model.
The next-gen Mahindra Thar will be equipped with a newly developed BS6-compliant 2.0-litre diesel and the new 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engines which will be tuned to offer different power outputs. The diesel engine is expected to develop 140PS of power and 320Nm of torque, while the petrol engine is expected to develop 190PS and 380Nm mated with both manual and automatic transmission options.
Inside the SUV it will be equipped with modern equipment such as touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, steering-mounted audio controls, cruise control, front power windows and keyless entry. The new platform will be compliant with upcoming safety norms. It will get dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, rear parking sensors, speed alert, speed sensing door locks and seat belt reminder as standard safety features.
The prices of the SUV’s new-generation model are likely to start from Rs 9 lakh for the base model and go up to Rs 15 lakh for the high-end variant. Thar will be competing with all-new Force Gurkha and even the Suzuki Jimny after its launch.
