Third-Generation Hyundai i20 Bags 2021 Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) Award
Hyundai’s latest offering, the new-generation i20 has won the esteemed Indian Car of the Year 2021 (ICOTY 2021) award leaving behind the nine-strong contenders – Kia Sonet, Mahindra Thar, Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Aura, Honda City, Tata Altroz, Kia Carnival, and the MG Gloster.

Meanwhile, Land Rover Defender won the premium car of the year while Tata Nexon EV was crowned as the Green Car of the Year. Tata Nexon EV took a victorious lead on the respective category by 106 points followed by the Hyundai Kona Electric and the MG ZS EV with 99 points and 93 points, respectively. Land Rover Defender, on the other hand, dominated the competition with 108 points, closely followed by the Mercedes-Benz GLE and the BMW 2 Series with 77 points and 61 points, respectively.

The new i20 has proved to be one of the largest-selling vehicles in India since its launch in November 2020. Hyundai’s i20 conquered the top slot with 104 points, while the Kia Sonet and the Mahindra Thar stood in the second and third slots with 91 points and 78 points, respectively.

Third-Generation Hyundai i20 offers as many as three powertrain options — 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine (83PS/88PS and 115Nm) with 5-speed MT or IVT automatic, 1.0-litre Kappa turbo-GDi petrol motor (120PS and 172Nm) with 6-speed iMT or 7-speed DCT automatic, and 1.5-liter U2 CRDi diesel mill (100PS and 240Nm) with a sole 6-speed MT.
