Toyota-Maruti JV Working on New Crossover above Brezza

Toyota and Maruti Suzuki are reported to be developing a new crossover codenamed D22 which will be positioned above the Vitara Brezza in Maruti’s line-up. The D22 crossover will be manufactured at Toyota’s manufacturing unit near Bangalore. However, sourcing of components is expected to be done through Maruti Suzuki.

Expected to be positioned between the Vitara Brezza and the Hyundai Creta/Kia Seltos, D22 has all details behind the curtains. It is also reported that the joint venture is working on a wide range of plans including SUVs, Crossovers, and MPVs.

D22 will not be introduced as a mid-size SUV rather it will be kept in the segment with cars such as Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster, and MG Hector, and so on. As per the reports, it is also believed that D22 could also get an all-wheel-drive variant.

Like all the other information, the engine to be featured is also unknown currently. However, there is a possibility of Maruti Suzuki’s 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine to make its way to D22. This engine is also equipped on other cars such as Vitara Brezza, Ciaz, Ertiga, etc. This engine puts out 105 PS of maximum power and 138 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties will probably include a 5-speed manual gearbox, as well as an optional auto.
