TVS X launched at INR 2.5 lakh in India

TVS Motor Company has launched its flagship electric scooter–the X–for the Indian market. The X model, built on TVS’ XLETON platform, will be the brand’s second electric scooter after the iQube. The new scooter is powered by a 4.44 kWh lithium-ion battery that will offer an IDC range of 140 km. The company has offered the scooter at an introductory price of INR 2.5 lakh.

Commenting on the occasion, Sudarshan Venu, Managing Director, TVS Motor Company, said: “We are targeting the millennials and the Gen Zs. Our dedication to harness technology and innovation towards a greener and more sustainable future has brought to us this incredibly desirable machine.” Millennials comprise people born between 1981 and 1996, while those born between 1996 and 2010 are referred as Gen Z (generation Z).

Design and features

The new X models are based on the Creon concept, which was showcased at the 2018 Auto India Auto Expo. The scooter gets an aggressive front fascia that features vertically stacked four-cube LED headlights and two LED DRLs positioned below them. And on the rear, the X gets a single-side rear swingarm. Furthermore, the scooter is also offered in dual-tone colour schemes.

The X comes equipped with a 10.25-inch tilt-adjustable TFT screen that offers Bluetooth connectivity, incoming call alerts, and turn-by-turn navigation. Furthermore, the instrument console displays information such as the speedometer, odometer, trip metres, clock, gear position indicator, fuel gauge, and riding modes, among others. The scooter also gets TVS Smart Xhield, which offers features such as speed limiting, overspeed alerts, fall alerts, geo-fencing, auto-locking, tow and theft alerts, and live vehicle location sharing. Other notable features are its LED units, cruise control, reverse assist, and hill-hold function, among others.

Powertrain

The new X is powered by the 4.44 kWh lithium-ion battery–mated to a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM)–that is capable of generating a peak power of 14.5 hp and a peak torque of 40 Nm. The company claims that the scooter can speed up to 105 kmph and it can accelerate from 0-40 kmph in 2.6 seconds. Furthermore, the scooter is offered in three riding modes: Xthealth, Xtride, and Xonic. For charging, the scooter gets charged from 0-50% within an hour via a 3 kW, and via a 950 W charger, it gets charged from 0-80% in around 3.40 hours. And on a single charge, the X models offer an IDC range of 140 km.

The scooter’s suspension duties are handled by a telescopic forks at the front and an offset mono-shock at the rear. For braking, the scooter gets a 220 mm disc brake at the front and a 195 mm disc brake at the rear, which is coupled with single-channel ABS.

TVS X price in Nepal

TVS India has launched its premium electric scooter–the X–at an introductory price of 2.5 lakh. TVS hasn’t revealed any information regarding its launch here, but in case of its launch, the fans can expect it to come at a price of Rs 4.40-5 lakh.
