Volkswagen donates 40 million euros for medical supplies to the care facilities and hospitals

Volkswagen has been organizing to provide large quantities of medical supplies in China for the doctors, care facilities and hospitals since the end of March and now its arriving in Germany.

Volkswagen Human Resources Director Gunnar Kilian said: “The fight against Corona is not over. Everyone and every company has to help contain the virus. That is why health protection is an absolute priority when we restart our production. And doctors and nurses still need our full support. For them, the fight against the virus is a marathon. Volkswagen is helping here with its donation. Our teams in procurement, healthcare, finance and logistics have put a lot of effort into this. ”

About 5 million face masks have now been delivered and many of them have already been distributed. It is expected to get upto 13 million equipment items, which is said to arrive from May onward. The total value of the supplies being donated by the Volkswagen Group to support medical and care facilities is about €40 million.

Volkswagen Group is also organizing and delivering medical supplies ordered by the German government under a framework agreement with the Federal Ministry of Health. The additional deliveries of several million masks are expected over the next few weeks. 

The Chairman of the Volkswagen Group Works Council Bernd Osterloh said: “Our colleagues are proud that Volkswagen at this point in time supports this major effort to safeguard supplies. It’s more than 40 years ago now that Volkswagen as one of the first international automakers started to forge links with China. Now we benefit from decades of close partnership in another context.” The Volkswagen teams analyzed the need in Germany, identified suitable manufacturers in China, promptly placed the orders and coordinated the air freight transports from China to Germany. The disinfectant was ordered and produced in Germany. Its redistribution is also carried out by public bodies.
