Xiaomi unveils the 4GB variant of the Redmi 5
Xioami by accident let the word spread about a possible 4GB variant of their recently launched mid-tier smartphone, the Xiaomi Redmi 5. The Chinese tech giant, without any official wording, listed the new variant on their website! The phone, previously, was available in two RAM variants- 2GB and 3GB. Now you can get the phone with a whopping 4GB of RAM. That said, let’s us see what else the phone brings to the table for a, now, tagged price of $174.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 packs a 5.7-inch HD (1440 x 720) IPS display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and a pixel density of 282PPI. This helps Xiaomi pack a phablet-sized display in a relatively small body. The Redmi 5 comes encased in an aluminum shell which not only looks good but also feels premium to the touch. Under the hood, the phone packs an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor along with the Adreno 506 GPU. The processor is backed by 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The storage can be further expanded via a micro-sd card up to 128GB. Besides that, the phone also supports dual-sim cards and is 4G capable.
In the camera side of things, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 packs a f/2.2 12MP rear camera accompanied by a dual-tone LED flash. The phone also has a f/2.2 5MP front camera for all your selfies. Software-wise, the phone runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat with Xiaomi’s own custom skin, MIUI 9.1 layered on top of it. Just sitting below the rear camera is a fingerprint scanner embedded into the phone’s back panel. Other sensors include an accelerometer, proximity, compass, and a gyroscope. And finally, powering the device all up is a 3300mAh non-user removable battery. This will be more than enough to get users through a day worth of usage on a single charge without any issues.
